Gareth Wakefield

Gareth was born in Redhill, Surrey and has lived in Guildford for most of his life. He joined Radio Lion while still at school in October 1994 co-presenting the Wednesday evening show. The first edition of Winding Down was in March 1995 and the show has been broadcast on Sunday evening since January 1996.

Gareth's eclectic taste in music has become evident with features such as the Store Cupboard Record, a popular feature which came about by accident after he was looking through the hundreds of vinyl records in the cupboard and picked out some real gems - many of which were US hits.

Gareth is currently Radio Lion's Programme Controller after being Membership Secretary at a time of rapidly expanding membership. He has presented most programmes on the station including the popular weekday morning show during holidays from 1995-98.

Gareth has been actively involved in outside broadcasts presenting the Guilfest programming for the last eight years. "There was a fantastic team of reporters on the show and we like to think that we gave a real flavour of the event. I certainly loved being there."

Outside Radio Lion Gareth has worked for BBC Southern Counties Radio and student stations FCT FM and Passion 106.8.

Gareth is passionate about music and loves seeing acts live as well as trawling through collector's records shops. His favourite acts include as ever Kylie Minogue!
