Alasdair Stark

Al Stark (Alasdair) joined Radio Lion as a trainee in July 2006 and took over the Wednesday evening slot as a full member in January 2007. A Scot by descent, Al was born and brought up in West Sussex, around the Crawley/East Grinstead area. He is passionate about music.

From a very early age, Al was fascinated by his father’s record collection; spending hours listening to Beatles, Pink Floyd and Mike Oldfield albums on headphones. In his teens and twenties, he played bass guitar in a variety of school, University and other local bands. In his twenties and thirties he always had a 12-string guitar with him for strumming and singing at parties. Discovering dance music in his late his thirties, he was a regular reviewer at clubs and festivals for a dance music website. In his forties, in addition to being behind the mic at Radio Lion, he seems to have found himself playing as an amateur club DJ, mixing progressive house music and minimal techno at a regular monthly slot at a bar in Brighton.

These latest two incarnations seem to have been a logical end point to an obsession with sharing music with people, from an extensive collection of vinyl (over 1200 LPs and 12" singles) and CDs (over 1000 at the last count), spanning four decades of collecting; everything from 60s psychedelia, through 70s rock, 80s goth, 90s Britpop and noughties indie, to cutting-edge house and blissed-out sounds from the White Isle.
